Chief has joined the Eagle River Police Department. A former lieutenant with the Lincoln County Sheriff's Department has been named the new chief of police for the city of Eagle River. Prior to appointment as Police Chief, Vander Bloomen was the chief of police for the Fort Irwin Police Department in Fort Irwin, Calif. Fort Irwin is a military base with a civilian police force. He has served in this capacity since May of 2006.

Prior to his position of chief of police, Vander Bloomen was a lieutenant with the Lincoln County Sheriff's Department. As a lieutenant, he supervised second-shift operations. He held the lieutenant's position from 2000 to 2006. He began his career with the Lincoln County Sheriff's Department in 1993.

From 1986 to 1992, Vander Bloomen served in the U.S. Army, holding the rank of sergeant as a military police officer. He has a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from American Intercontinental University.
