The NARCAN® Direct Program provides free NARCAN® for community distribution. The NARCAN® is given to agencies that serve people who are using opioids or people who may witness an opioid overdose. People receiving the free NARCAN® must attend a training hosted by a trainer associated with the NARCAN® Direct Program agency on how to identify an opioid overdose and how to use NARCAN® to reverse an opioid overdose.

From WI DHS website https://www.dhs.wisconsin.gov/opioids/professionals.htm

The mission of the NARCAN® Direct Program is to promote awareness about opioid use disorder, educate community members about the dangers of opioids, and improve access to harm reduction initiatives including how to administer NARCAN® nasal spray to an individual experiencing a suspected opioid overdose.

If you are a person who uses drugs or if you are around people who use drugs, please consider learning how to respond to an opioid overdose and carrying naloxone (intranasal brand name: Narcan). Naloxone is a medication designed to reverse an opioid overdose. Opioids slow down the activity of the central nervous system. This can cause slowed or stopped breathing which may lead to death. Naloxone displaces the opioids from the opioid receptors in the brain which allows the person who is experiencing an opioid overdose to begin breathing normally. We have a helpful FAQ and are constantly updating it with questions from our site visitors. If you don’t find what you’re looking for, let us know.
